Kent has been a public servant most of his adult life. He currently serves as vice mayor in his hometown of Delaware, Ohio. Kent previously was police officer with Columbus, Ohio, Division of Police for more than 33 years, over half that time as a commander, retiring in 2012. During his career, Kent worked in such areas as patrol, traffic, gang, street crime and narcotics. Kent developed the city’s first gang unit to address a developing street gang crime problem and created CPD’s crime analysis unit to examine crime trends and develop strategies using up-to-date technology. In 1996, he was honored with a Washington Times Foundation National Service Award for his creation of the Mission Aligned Policing Philosophy and the Strategic Response Bureau.

His personal mission is “To help people and organizations become more effective”.
In addition to his many commitments, Kent is currently working on his first book, in which he shares important life lessons gained throughout his career. His goal is to help others improve their life skills, and thereby improve their ability to be successful.
